THE WEAVER BIRD PHILOSOPHY

The world is so full of stuff. The shops are filled with things to buy, mostly mass-made in morally onerous circumstances. When we have finished with these many disposable objects they end up in landfill sites or floating in our oceans. Many are derived from plastics and will take thousands of years to disintegrate and as they do they form smaller and smaller particles of plastic which pollute our water and damage our wildlife.

Sheep grazing our wild places in enormous flocks do irreparable damage to ecosystems and yet wool is one of the most functional and wearable fabrics. It's natural, it biodegrades on compost heaps. It's durable, hardwearing and warm. Wool cools in the summer, warms and insulates in the winter. Woollen scarves are a safe place to snuggle into when life gets hard and wool has a distinctive comforting smell. It's the smell of my studio, the smell of home, the smell of safety.

All Weaver Bird pieces are carefully handmade using the fleeces of small flock Shetland Sheep, reared and sheared on the tiny islands of Shetland. These fleeces are dyed and spun into the finest yarns by Jamieson's - a small, family run Spinning Mill in Sandness on Shetland Mainland.

The Weaver Bird philosophy is to wear handmade, to live simply, and to enjoy wearing products that have been designed and created by hand by someone who knows and understands the need to hide from time to time in a warm snug nest of wool.

Weaver Bird doesn't have a presence on any social media platforms.

As Weaver Bird is a one woman creative project, all items are subject to availability on the day, you can only find your perfect slippers by trying them on and every pair is unique.

    That's the joy of handmade!
